Sovereignty by design.
Why your freedom is being decided now.

A thesis on what staying free means when AI does everything, and on the concrete means — data, models, knowledge — that turn it into reality rather than a slogan.

§ 01 · Why now

The window is closing.

Every twenty or thirty years a technology redistributes the cards: who produces, who decides, who owns. The printing press did it. Electricity did it. The personal computer, then the Internet, did it. Each time, the same question came back: will the new power expand individual autonomy, or concentrate it in a few hands?

AI asks the question again, faster and louder. The answer is not yet written. It is being written right now, in the contracts being signed, in the habits being formed, in the tools we adopt without understanding them.

Our conviction: freedom isn't preserved, it's built — and the tool you use every morning matters more than a long speech on ethics.

§ 02 · Freedom

What freedom really means.

Freedom is often confused with the absence of constraints. That's a tourist's definition. Real freedom is having enough tools, knowledge and convictions to choose your own constraints — and to change them when you want.

Applied to AI, that distinction gets very concrete. You can use a tool that dictates its terms to you, or a tool whose workings you understand. You can hand your data to a third party, or keep it. You can believe what you're told about the model, or go see for yourself.

Three concrete freedoms.

  • Freedom to leave — your data stays exportable, your models replayable elsewhere.
  • Freedom to understand — the tool does nothing you can't inspect.
  • Freedom to change — the code is readable, the parameters adjustable, the defaults overridable.

§ 03 · Ownership

Who owns what.

In a world driven by AI, code is no longer the scarce thing — attention, judgement, context are. The data that describes your work, your clients, your decisions has become raw material. The question of ownership is no longer legal: it's political.

Our rule, across all vllnt surfaces: what you produce with our tools is yours. No hidden licence, no secret training, no retention clause. A simple rule that's becoming rare across the industry — and that changes everything day-to-day.

Three non-negotiable rules.

  • Reads on La Forge trigger no advertising profile, no third-party cookie, no tracking pixel.
  • Your Academy progress stays local to your browser. Nothing is sent to a server without your explicit consent.
  • Open Source code stays under a permissive licence, with no retention clause.

§ 04 · Knowledge

Knowledge as the ground of all independence.

A tool you don't understand holds you. A dependency you didn't see binds you. The highest form of sovereignty is not doing everything yourself: it's knowing what to delegate, to whom, why, and at what cost.

That's why vllnt is not only a tool-maker. It's also a media outlet and a school. We watch the world change, share what we learn, teach what we've verified. Without theatrics, without prophecy. With dates, sources, and doubt where it's needed.

A free person is not someone with no dependencies. It's someone who knows what they depend on.

§ 05 · In practice

Three tools, one purpose.

vllnt deploys across three independent subdomains. Each is a specific means toward the same end: your independence. Each lives at its own rhythm, with its own voice, audience, tempo. No shared cookie, no cross-tracking, no obligation to go through the root domain.

  • forge.vllnt.ai — daily brief and long essays on what's changing.
  • academy.vllnt.ai — free paths to learn to wield AI yourself. (work in progress)
  • oss.vllnt.ai — the code we use, released, take it and adapt it.

This page, on vllnt.ai, is just an index: it explains the approach, gives access to this book, and points to each tool. Nothing else. No portal, no wizard, no dashboard. The least friction possible between you and what you care about.

§ 06 · Commitments

What we commit to.

A project without written commitments is just a brand. Here are the ones we hold regardless of market pressure, trends or growth opportunities.

  • What's free stays free. Academy will never become a paid product.
  • No third-party advertising, no third-party tracker, no invasive analytics on any surface — now or later.
  • No investor will steer La Forge's editorial voice.
  • Code stays under a permissive licence, with no retention clause.
  • Your data stays yours — exportable, deletable, never resold, never trained on without your knowledge.
  • Any major evolution of this thesis is published, dated, archived.

This edition (v1.0) is published in 2026. The next will appear when something deserves to be re-written, not before.
